""Channel 5" is the fifteenth and penultimate episode of the fifth season of the post-apocalyptic horror television series Fear the Walking Dead, which aired on AMC on September 22, 2019. The episode was written by Michael Alaimo and Samir Mehta, and directed by David Barrett. Plot Virginia creates a documentary to entice people to join the Pioneers, inspiring Althea to create a new documentary to counter Virginia's message. Grace's condition continues to deteriorate. Tom reunites with his sister Janis, who turns out to be the woman Wes rescued, and dedicates herself to helping create the documentary to show people the differences between the two factions. As the group attempts to cross a damaged bridge, Virginia confronts them, who offers to help them cross, as well as information on Sherry's whereabouts, if they join them When no one steps forward, Virginia summons a herd of walkers to force them to need her help. Most of the group make it to safety, but Tom is killed when the bridge collapses, and the group also loses the tanker and most of its supplies. They enter Humbug's Gulch, a nearby Old West-style theme park where John thinks they can safely settle, but is surrounded by a huge herd of walkers. Feeling they have no other choice, Morgan turns to Virginia for help, while Dwight storms off angry at the decision. Reception "Channel 5" received poor reviews. It currently holds a 17% rating with an average score of 3.75/10 out of 12 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the worst reviewed episode on the site for the series and franchise. The critics' consensus reads: "'Channel 5' blows up any sense of the season's narrative momentum in its homestretch with a cheesy propaganda battle that trips Fear into self-parody." Erik Kain of Forbes was negative about the episode and wrote: "A team of writers and producers sat around a table and decided that this was the story they wanted to tell. It's unfathomable. It's absurd. ""Ner Tamid" is the twelfth episode of the fifth season of the post-apocalyptic horror television series Fear the Walking Dead, which aired on AMC on September 1, 2019. The episode was written by Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. Plot Disappointed that she hasn't found a new shelter yet, Charlie runs away from the group and ends up in a synagogue. There she is saved by Rabbi Jacob Kessner, who offers her an inn for the night. After shaking hands with repairing a light, Charlie thinks they can reinforce the chapel and create a new safe area for the group. John and June arrive, who say it won't work because it is too small and lacks a water supply. Charlie has to abandon the idea when the walkers invade and destroy the temple, forcing everyone to flee. Meanwhile, some members of Logan's crew discover the location of the caravan and chase after Sarah and Dwight, who are in the oil truck. They eventually run out of fuel, but Logan's group surprisingly leaves without conflict. Sarah is relieved, but Dwight wonders if it was a setup. Elsewhere, Logan arrives at the oil fields, having discovered the location through the Althea tapes. Reception "Ner Tamid" received negative reviews. It currently holds a 36% negative rating with an average score of 4.75/10 out of 14 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The critics' consensus reads: "Meandering and stocked with credulity-straining moments, 'Ner Tamid' keeps the season's narrative momentum frustratingly stuck in neutral -- although it finds some grace notes in a nuanced depiction of Judaism." ""You're Still Here" is the eleventh episode of the fifth season of the post- apocalyptic horror television series Fear the Walking Dead, which aired on AMC on August 25, 2019. The episode was written by Mallory Westfall and Alex Delyle, and directed by K.C. Colwell. Plot During a scouting trip with Strand, Alicia finds another tree painted with the message "If you're reading this, you're still here." Wes contacts them, who explains his personal encounter with Logan. Alicia and Strand take Wes to their abode, which is a nearby police station. When Wes walks in, a gun battle is heard and an injured man runs out and steals his car. Elsewhere, Morgan and Althea enter a bank, where Althea keeps her interview tapes in a safe deposit box. They pick up a distress call from Alicia and attempt to locate the injured man and the stolen truck, but their progress is stopped by Logan's crew. Alicia, Strand and Wes escape from the police station and locate the wounded man. He tries to strangle Wes, but Wes overpowers him and stabs him before asking where a manuscript is. The man tells Wes that it is in his bag before he dies. Alice angrily wonders why Wes would kill someone for a manuscript; Wes just says "people are people" before walking away. While looking at the manuscript, Alicia discovers the phrase of the trees on the final page and realizes that Wes was the one who painted them. That night, Logan's crew invade the bank and steal Althea's tapes, hoping to learn the whereabouts of the oil field location. Reception "You're Still Here" received negative reviews. It currently holds a 46% negative rating with an average score of 5.62/10 out of 13 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The critics' consensus reads: "Guest star Colby Hollman makes a strong impression as the cynical Wes in 'You're Still Here,' a leisurely paced installment that nevertheless may have fans wondering if the series has forgotten where the meat of its appeal lies." David S.E. Zapanta of Den of Geek praised the episode and wrote: ""You're Still Here" marks a welcome return to form for the series. And by that I mean a renewed, fresh focus on the undead, positioning them more as scavengers, feasting on dead livestock while the living roll past seemingly unnoticed and unhindered."
